Hen night

Hen ideas

Pole dancing

Spice up your hen weekend with some pole dancing lessons. You and your friends could have fun while getting into shape and building your confidence and strength with pole dancing. You can then show off your new skills and sexy moves to your husband-to-be. Website www.gobananas.co.uk organises pole dancing weekends in Birmingham and says you dont have to be an exhibitionist to get involved.

Lessons give you a chance to express yourself and perform your dance moves with sheer elegance, said a spokesman. Pole dancing also will help you to enhance your body language and posture by the variety of moves it incorporates. Don't be shy, you are not performing in front of audience, you are with your friends so be confident and free.

Salsa

Why not put your dancing shoes on and enjoy a good salsa with your friends? And if you want to go the extra mile, you could make a weekend of it and enjoy a salsa trip in Barcelona. Packages are available at www.redsevenleisure.co.uk from around £190 for a weekend trip, including hotel accommodation and flights. You will learn the sexiest moves with the best Latin music. After the lesson recover your body with a tapas feast and get ready for the night ahead. Your guide will take you to the most popular and lively bars and pubs in the centre during your VIP bar crawl, making sure you have an unforgettable night out.

Cocktails and clubbing

Have fun with your friends and learn how to make your own Manhattans at a cocktail and clubbing weekend. With prices starting from £92, www.chillisauce.co.uk organises a host of packages for hen weekends in Birmingham, such as a night in a city centre hotel, with a cocktail masterclass the following day. There's more to cocktail making than just pouring a few spirits in a glass and giving it a bit of a shake, said a spokesman for the site. Mixing is an art get it right and you can create delicious drinks which will be an explosion of pleasure on your tongue, but get it wrong and youll be pulling pained faces and reaching for the mouthwash to wash the taste away. The course will be followed by a night at one of the city's top nightclubs, where you will be on the guest list and given VIP treatment.

Comedy

Have a few laughs with your mates by heading down to your local comedy club. Birmingham boasts Jongleurs in Broad Street and the Glee Club in The Arcadian. You can have a giggle from some of the country's best comic talent before putting on your dancing shoes and enjoying a dance at an aftershow disco. You can enjoy food at the comedy clubs or have a bite to eat at one of the city's restaurants ahead of the gig. If you fancy partying all night long, both clubs are in spitting distance of nightclubs and late night bars. And if you have pals from around the country travelling to the city there's a multitude of hotels for them to stay in within stumbling distance after a day of eating, drinking and laughing.

Stag night

Stag ideas:

Paintballing

Dressing up in camouflage and shooting at your mates on a stag weekend... what could be healthier and more wholesome than that? This is one of the most popular stag activities and can be made even more fun if you arrange a "hunt the stag" by making sure the stag has some antlers and a big target on his back. But be warned, this isn't for the faint hearted. Paintballs travel at around 200mph so they do hurt when they hit you at close range. But paintballing wouldn't be half as fun if they didn't. Dont worry though, they don't do much harm except sometimes leave a small bruise.

Quad biking

If you thrive on challenges, mud, jumps and speed then this experience was made for you. The real fun begins once youve got the hang of driving these nippy, four-wheeled machines. You could be driving deep into the heart of the forest, up and down hills or across fields. Virgin has quad biking packages at centres across the country. On arrival at the centre you will be given a full briefing on the rules, the safety procedures and the riding techniques from a qualified professional team member. You will then get kitted out and jump onto the quad bike and spend some time getting to grips with the controls. Once your instructor feels you are ready you can begin the serious driving. Youll progress through woods, across fields, up and down hills and over jumps. As your confidence grows the tracks will get more demanding and more fun.

Sky diving

For an extreme stag do, how about joining your mates for a skydive? A huge adrenalin rush, it certainly will prove to be a stag do to remember. You normally need a lot of training for either skydiving or parachute jumping but there is a way to get a quick fix skydive in tandem with a qualified instructor. Its safe for novices and doesnt require much participant input at all. So, if you want to experience the adrenalin high of jumping out of a plane at 4,000 metres and free-falling towards earth then a skydiving stag weekend is the perfect opportunity.

Dog sledding

We're so lucky living in Europe we have things like dog sledding on our doorstep. If you live somewhere like Australia you've got a long way to go for this kind of stag weekend. Being in command of your own pack of Huskies is a unique and wonderful experience. It's also a great way to explore the snow-covered landscape. Mush, mush!

Golf

For some it's a good walk ruined. For others it's a joy and an obsession. If you're a member of the latter then grab those plus fours - it's time for a few rounds. Of course, the UK has some world-class courses but you may want to play abroad instead. A number of countries, including Spain and Portugal, have absolutely stunning courses with less chance of having to run for cover every 15 minutes. Throw in a few well-earned beers at the 19th hole and you've got the recipe for a great stag weekend.
