Wedding inspiration: Wedding themes

Looking for ideas for a novelty wedding? We bring you the top themes this season...

Once you’ve got the nerve-wracking bit out of the way and you have exchanged your vows, it is time to celebrate your nuptials with the party to end all parties. But where to begin with organising it?

Pretty in pink

Pretty in pink

Glamour model turned author and TV star Katie Price went the whole hog when it came to a pink theme when she tied the knot with pop crooner Peter Andre. However, if a pink horse drawn carriage seems a little over the top to you, tame down the theme by using subtle hints of colour. You could chose a dress trimmed with pink embroidery or lace, or perhaps the groom, best man, page boys or ushers could wear pink ties. Dress your tables with pink balloons, linen, napkins and favour boxes and opt for pink fairy cakes or a traditional tiered cake with pink icing.
Winter Wedding

Winter Wedding

Winter weddings can be wonderfully romantic. Look like a snow queen as you walk down the aisle and then snuggle up to your new husband as you brave the cold together. What's more, the stores fill their rails with fabulous party wear as Christmas approaches, meaning that your guests can enjoy dressing up for your celebrations too. And arranging a winter wedding could potentially save you money. In popular wedding months such as June, hotels expect to be fully booked and are less likely to give discounts than they are in the winter.
Arabian nights

Arabian nights

Dazzle your guests with a wedding to remember and something truly out of the ordinary. You can arrange to have professional belly dancers provide entertainment, or why not have belly dancing lessons prior to your wedding and show off your new skills as a unique first dance? Instead of opting for a traditional dress you could go for something Middle Eastern; and put on a Moroccan banquet full of spicy and colourful food. You can decorate the venue using colourful fabrics, drapes, rugs and cushions to transform it into a true Arabian paradise.
Enchanted garden

Enchanted garden

Be inspired by all things quintessentially British by hosting a garden tea party on your wedding day. You could be inspired by a range of table decorations, invitations, and decorations available at stores such as www.confetti.co.uk. Instead of a wedding cake, why not serve an Alice in Wonderland-style cream tea, with scones and fresh clotted cream? You could be inspired by a Jane Austen-style dress, with loose flowing fabric. The groom could opt for a top hat and tails and traditional English attire.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas

One of the worlds most famous wedding destinations has to be Las Vegas, where celebrities such as pop star Britney Spears and British singer and actress Billie Piper have tied the knot. Many hotels in Vegas are geared up for weddings, offering packages for people on all kinds of budgets. You could be married by an Elvis impersonator or say your nuptials over a game of blackjack. However, you don't have to go all the way to America to have a taste of Vegas. Why not ask you guests to come dressed in Vegas glitz and stage a casino as entertainment?
Gothic

Gothic

Who said you have to have a white wedding? You could ditch a white wedding dress in favour of a black number and ban your guests from wearing anything too colourful. Go the whole hog and have your faces painted a pasty white with black eye liner, mascara and lipstick. Decorate your venue with black balloons and instead of donning dainty shoes, opt for some sturdy boots and stripey tights. Forget a string quartet, instead go for a rock band.
Medieval

Medieval

Take a trip back in time with a Medieval-style wedding, which can really make it a day to remember. You can be peasants, royalty, or anything in between and have fun dressing up in Romeo and Juliet-style dresses for the bride in rich colours and materials. You could find your attire from charity shops, car boot sales or online at sites such as www.moresca.com. You could also lay on a banquet of traditional food, including turkey, venison, mutton, roast quail, turtledoves, partridge, goose and roasted boar.
